Born in a small Kentucky town, Marilyn grew up in the heart of the Bluegrass region and experienced a traditional rural childhood. A tomboy and a dreamer, she loved to amble through fields and climb trees, lost in her own world of make-believe. Indoors, she was always captivated by a thought-provoking book or movie.
During elementary school, she discovered the thrill of writing when one of the class assignments was to compose a story. On her first attempt, the tale seemed to write itself, and after receiving affirming words from her teacher, she realized this was something she could do forever.
Eventually, Marilyn enrolled in college where she majored in English with a concentration in writing. While there, she volunteered in a writing lab and became a copyeditor and contributor to the Gamecock Newspaper. Since graduating from the University of South Carolina, she has provided writing and editing services for multiple entities and is now excited to be a part of the Our Town Magazine team.
As a young adult, Marilyn met her future husband, Frank, who is now a certified public accountant in the greater Columbia area. Together, they raised three children: David, Jameson, and Ella. Their three children have since left the nest to begin vocations of their own. The oldest has blessed her with her newest title of “Nana”, and she has grandsons: Jacob, Levi, and Jonathan.
When she’s not writing, Marilyn enjoys anything crafty, while her two cats, Skipper and Fluffy, keep her company. She has also recently taken up line dancing for the fun and fellowship and is very active in her local church.
